On September 24th, the Rotary Club of Barrie welcomed Dr. Daniel Travers, a professor at Georgian College and founder of the Canadian Museum of Water in Midland. The museum is part of a global network of 130 water museums in 40 countries, built on one central idea – water is not merely a resource. It is a relationship.

Dr. Travers challenged the Club to think beyond the tap. In water-rich communities like Barrie, it is easy to take clean water for granted. In water-scarce communities, the relationship with water looks completely different. The museum uses art, history, science, and hands-on exhibits to help young people understand that difference and see themselves as guardians of the water they share.

The museum is growing its partnerships with Georgian College, universities, and environmental organizations, with a vision of establishing a water-focused campus in the South Georgian Bay region.

President Jeff presented Dr. Travers with a certificate acknowledging a donation made in his name to The Kid’s Pantry by The Pavlik Foundation. The Club thanks Dr. Travers for a thought-provoking afternoon.
