The Rotary Club of Barrie is proud to support the IOOF Seniors Homes with a generous $3,000 donation to enhance the well-being of residents living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive disorders. This contribution funded the purchase of innovative fibre optic sensory equipment, creating a dedicated Resident Sensory Room on the IOOF’s memory care floor.

During a recent visit to IOOF Seniors Homes, members of the Rotary Club of Barrie had the opportunity to tour the facility and witness firsthand the incredible care and programs designed to support residents. The new Sensory Room provides a calming environment that helps reduce anxiety and promotes engagement for those with cognitive impairments. By utilizing fibre optic sensory equipment, the room delivers targeted stimulation that can break through perceptual barriers, encouraging greater awareness and interaction among residents.

Garry Hopkins, CEO of IOOF Seniors Homes, expressed his appreciation for the Rotary Club’s contribution:“We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Barrie for their support in creating a sensory room for our memory care residents. Our care team provides specialized programs to enhance residents’ quality of life, and this new equipment will be instrumental in fostering communication and relaxation.”

The IOOF Seniors Homes has been serving Ontario residents for over 100 years, offering exceptional housing, healthcare services, and resident programs. The organization is currently embarking on a major redevelopment project to expand its long-term care facility, with construction set to begin in the coming months and completion expected by early 2027.

The Rotary Club of Barrie is honoured to contribute to the IOOF’s mission of providing compassionate and innovative care for seniors. Community initiatives like these are at the heart of what we do—supporting projects that make a real difference in people’s lives.
